Deep thoughts Wednesday: Goblins everywhere

Tags:

Whoa… Never thought that so many people would do what I do, yesterday I asked what you guys would do, and most of you would (ofc like me) exploit “the sheep”.
A sheep you know in RL even… gave me a startle and a bit of hope is regained for the human race.

Now deep thoughts isn’t going to be a big thing this week, since WoW time = 0 for the last week I don’t have too much to say.

Later this week:
Tomorrow = The WAR post
Friday: Podcast + tip post
this Weekend: WoW midnight junky review

And a Question here:
If there is one thing you could change/better in the podcast: what would it be?
leave a comment and hopefully we’ll get it changed!

  1. “exploit” ?

    Hell, it’s not…
paying someone more than he expect is not exploit.

There are not fair 50%/50% split with working contract.
    Only acceptable offer or not.

“exploit”? you sound social to me :P

  2. :O are you calling me Social here? :O
I never said that exploiting them is wrong… but I see for what it is.. the farmer gets 10% of the total income while doing 90% of hte work = exploiting = their only use = me happy :)

  3. From my POV, it’s not a exploit from the beginning

    from wikipedia
Exploit : The act of using something in an unjust or cruel manner.

    Now,
nothing stop him to become informed (knowing the market)
And, he’s not forced to work for you.

I don’t see anything unjust or cruel on that…I would said it’s fair for you to offer a more-than-expected paid for his work. If he find that the pay is too low, he’ll refuse to work for you. I don’t see any problem on that….

Therefore, I refuse to even said t5hat this is an exploit at all :P

Provide a textual script of it for those of us who read your site from work, and can’t view videos. :P

  5. exploitation is what happens sometimes IRL when you take advantage of somebody’s need to eat or some other problem to get them to take jobs for much less than they ever would if they could afford to wait normally for a decent opportunity. Preying on people’s innumeracy or desperate conditions to the point of tricking them into effective slavery, a la the company stores of yesteryear (or frankly the scientologists today, but that’s another story). That’s exploitation.

In wow, there’s a perfect safety net. Nobody needs to eat. Even if all your gear is red and you have 0c and no items of anay value, there is a way to make gold from NPCs. So there’s no excuse that if I don’t take your unreasonable offer my character would die or be unable to play the game. If you don’t allow yourself to get into *stupid* straits like the aforementioned 0c all red gear, you can make a couple hundred gold an hour as a button masher doing dailies or farming at lvl 80, which is plenty to support most of what people want to do in game without a ton of grinding.

The only kind of exploitation I see in wow is when people lie or cheat. Is it lying or cheating to suggest herb farming?

Being an ah shark or a profession industrialist is not for everyone. If you do it wrong, or just get unlucky, you can lose a lot of gold rather than make it, and it’s not terribly easy to explain how to make 1kg+/hr and minimize your risk in 10 minutes to someone who doesn’t have that je ne sais quoi to figure out 90% of it on their own once you point them in the right direction.

A tip on how to farm efficiently is information he didn’t have before you gave it to him. That’s not exploitation.

Might be a little on the sleazy side (IMO) to offer a price that’s much lower than my standard farm contract to somebody I know. I wouldn’t feel right about suggesting 5g a stack for top lvl herbs say, when I have other farmers I buy for 12-14g a stack, and 10-15g is fairly standard price for taking shitloads of herbs off somebody’s hands.

I don’t ever tell somebody that something is worth less than it really is — I know the goblins would disagree, but I’m a gnome. But taking their money when they offer more than something is worth? or their product when they offer it too low? IMO, it would be rude to suggest they have erred.
