Hang-over produces Deep thoughts: Changes to the money game

Tags: ,

I played a little on my Warlock yesterday went from 63 to 64 and got some nice worldpvp kills… The first guy that said Death knights are overpowered should think twice before saying that… I slaughtered a couple, a couple of times *evil grin*

What hit me though is that WoW actually doesn’t appeal to me anymore as it used to be, if we look back to the early beta untill now soo much has changed it’s unbelievable that it’s still the same game.
Warlocks went from pvp ownage to sissy’s and back again. 40 mans don’t exist anymore, 3h dungeons don’t exist anymore, you can lvl 3 different ways and gaia can sue your Tauren at lvl20 now when he rides a hawkstrider. And most of the changes are good, most of the changes make life easier, yet some changes like the massive 5mans and 40mans were sad, we don’t really miss them. For every “bad” change there were 5 good ones, and the future holds even more and better changes.

Yet there is ONE thing that blizzard has forgotten, and that “thing” is actually the reason why you read this blog. GOLD, or at least the “gold-making game”.

In the last years, not much has changed, the Auction houses were linked together and the amount of money earned in the wild grew larger and larger. yet the prices of everything stayed pretty much the same. With the exception of the money sinks, like mounts, riding skills and dualspec. And even those are lowered.
The money game doesn’t change for us, every expansion it’s the same thing. Yes with new items, but basically it stays the same ole’ game.
You buy some, you sell some, and thadaaaa profit. You farm some, you craft some and thadaaa profit…

The economy is made by players and they stick to the same “strategy” because it works, and be honest, the economy in WoW doesn’t have much leeway. All the crafted items are the same quality and quantity. (how much you can farm/buy). One out of ten playes has the same skill as you, and one out of 100 sell their items on the AH, the exact same item on the exact same place at the exact same time (read: 99% of always) for almost the exact same price.

Personally I think it’s time to step it up, make different qualities items with more procs or skill lvl advantages. I don’t care what else, just make it different, make it better and more extensive!

In other words,
Blizzard Improve our game too!

FYI:
If the reaction is good on this post, this will be part of a contest this friday. (lootcards as price!)

  1. I think you are being abit too quick on your decisions that ‘nothing much happend’.

Think for example about the adding of new profession, phasing and the siege/mounts. Blizzard has the habit of taking that what is broken and fix it.
For example the LFD system, the battlegrounds and reputation+rewards.

The biggest change to me in WotLK is the ‘new’ way of questing. Questhelpers are put in the game itself, the quests are far more dynamic and require you to go trough big chains leading to stuff like riding on big giants’ head or the wrathgate opening.

Right now the auctionhouse doesnt seem ‘broken’ enough to change something. Theres a zillion items that go in and out of there every day, just like intended.
Sure its an easy way to make money for us goblins, but its not like everyone is making 10k a day. Most people do stop after the epic flyer with trying to get more gold.

I only started working the AH the last 3 months and i must say I do think I like the ‘normal’ playing of the game better. And Im sure most of the other players agree with me that they just play for fun, not for making lots of gold.
Its a nice bonus, but not so attractive that everyone just sits in the AH scanning all day.
However this makes sure that the prices stay fair and ppl will continue to buy stuff, just because they want items to move on in their fun playing the game.

  2. I’m sorry pokepoke but I think you misunderstood me.
“Not much has changed” for us… for the goldmaking game. I’m not speaking of WoW in general.

  3. Read better, what i mean is that not much has changed, since its not broken enough :)

  5. One thing I would love to see added to the AH interface is showing of enchants on the list of weapons and armor. I know you can hover over and see them, but if they were listed in the search itself, it would give you the chance to customize what you’re selling and list it higher than others and have buyers actually know why. Or maybe a way to filter and find only items with enchants on them would be helpful as well.

  6. kiragan you make a decent point here. Even if only there only would be a green+ sign before the name, this would have a fairly big impact on the ‘economy’
