Guest post: Be creative, be funny, sell more!

Tags: , ,

Here is another informative guest post for you guys! This time from PokePoke, a constant reader.

When it comes to selling stuff in WoW, most people just dump stuff on the AH and wait for it to sell. That works well usually, but there are some items that people will just buy alot faster (and more) when you can “sell” it to them.

With that I mean the advertising in the trade (or other larger) channels.

While of course you use auctioneer with a snatchtool, it doesn’t mean everyone is. Searching every item you might want to buy takes ages. Some people will write some item names down or something like that, but most will just do it from the top of their heads. There is a lot of thing YOU want to sell, that THEY don’t think about.

For example (and I picked up the idea at another goldblog, completely blank on the name, will give credit when I remember):

- Rituals of the new moon

Its an offhand item that you can “use” and it will transform you into a wolf with about the same graphics as the shamanwolf, but then in 4 different colors.
Now most people in the game haven’t even heard about this item, but its funny and makes you look “cool”.

You can advertise this item like:

“On AH Rituals of the new moon”

You might turn a head or two, but the masses wont even read it or click the item to see what it is.
Think about why people need to buy the item, what does it do for THEM?
On this one its easy, it makes you transform into a wolf and there’s 4 colors to pick from.
So instead direct people to the purpose:

“On AH: Rituals of the new moon! Let your inner wolf free and become one!”

Maybe add something on the end for the 4 colors.

You will notice you will get a lot more /w with “cool how much”. Its new to people and YOU are bringing the fun to them.

This can also be done with “old” items. Selling rich purple silk shirts on the AH might make you sell a few, but you can change your act a bit. Shirts is not something people will look for every day, but if you steer people to it they will at least think about buying one. Any piece of “clothing” in WoW you can pretty much sell with the following:

“Spring is here! The new spring collection of [Rich purple silk shirt] and [Someotherstuff] is now on sale on the AH! Too casual? pick up a [Tuxedo pants][Tuxedo shirt]!”

Now you put something in the chat that people will read, either because its different or because its more fun to read then “shirt buy now”.

Risk?

Don’t ever overspam your items. People are not blind and they will not appreciate it when you go berserk in the chat channels. Don’t forget that the lines you type are usually a bit longer and will most likely take up two or more lines in the chatframe. The last thing you want to do is put more then 2 of the same shout at a time in the tradechannel. You will overspam the chatframe and alot of people will just put you on ignore. That’s another few potential costumers down the drain…

What I like to do is say it once, do some auctioning, do some more auctioning, say it again, do a HC, say it again after.
This way you probably will attract a bunch of new people with it, while the “old” crowd doesn’t notice you’ve said it before.

Also make sure you are not trying to mingle in an overcrowded market. If person X sees u chat in tradechannel with an item he is selling, he will most likely check the prices, relist and also chat something similar to you. The result is that you are not unique anymore, people will lose interest quickly.

Last piece of advice is that you have to keep your AH stock as unique as your messages. There is no point in throwing 50 purple silk shirts on there, keep it unique and special.

Replacement: The Junkyard vs Cataclysm Preparations

Tags: , ,

Since “the Junkyard” isn’t always usefull, I’m going to switch around “the Junkyard” with “Cataclysm Preparations”
So I’ll inform you of what I’m doing to get my money when Cataclysm comes out!

TSB has been set up a few weeks ago, and we’ve been in ICC twice right now. Since TSB is still new, and we are recruiting inexperienced raiders. Why Inexperienced? If we show them the ropes and gear them, they will have a greater sense of “loyalty”.

Why am I doing this? Why am I starting so slow with the guild? — only first 4 bosses down –
Easy… the Cataclysm guild changes. If we set up a “loyal” and “smart” core team now, it will help us then. I don’t mind learning ppl how to play for a month orso if we can take the fruits of our labor when it’s going to matter. Now this isn’t really gold related so let’s get that in here too.

So the golden preparations for Cataclysm.. yep here they come… yes, yes golden info here….

Sorry I was just having some fun here with leaving you all hanging… I need to get it somewhere right?

No but seriously now, I haven’t been playing a lot these days, but the time I have been playing i’m leveling my new druid. (lvl26) and against my own style I took Herbalism and Skinning as my professions.
When Cata comes out, a lot of people will be rolling Worgen/goblins.
I suspect after the first week has passed, and the speedlevelers are 85 we will see an increase in the demand of lowlevel materials. So I’m stocking up all herbs/leather from 1-40, and later on from 40-80. I don’t think the price will skyrocket, but I do think that all those materials will sell quickly if not expensive.
As I’ve said before I don’t like 2 gather proffesions for the time it takes away from leveling.
duration of leveling == 100% time needed
leveling with 2 gather prof == 100% + 20%
leveling with instances as tank/healer == 90%
with heirlooms == 70%
so if I level a healer in instances with heirlooms I should be able to level 30% faster then normal. Yet this is impossble due to the farming (which can’t be done well in instances)
So let’s say I still lose about 1/5 of my time gathering this and that. Yet this is worth the time, as the mats are sure sells. And with some luck sure sells for 200%-300% of their value.

oh well I’ll close up here before I’m going to start typing that makes no sense at all.

The Junkyard: The Same metal… again

Tags:

I had listed up some links I liked and came to the conclusion that I just cannot share them. Why not? Well have a look at our previous “Junkyard”-entry and look at the blogs there, now look at the blogs on my blogroll….
All the links would go to those blogs.

I’ve said it before the gold bloggers are thinning out and the decent link’s keep coming from the same blogs. So starting from next week, I will include 3 orso links about WoW in general.

Today I’m asking you, the constant reader to post your favorite link of this week here. (even if -big if- it came from my own blog)
I would love to see some reading material I haven’t noticed before. And am sure others will too.

In other big news though: you should go and check out the Armory, it now has a 3D char profiler which is “kind of cool”. Make your biggest rival in the AH stand in the most embarrassing position known to man!

The Junkyard: Where is everybody!?

And I don’t mean the readers… I mean the bloggers.

First off I replied the comments on yesterday’s topic, so if you commented, have a look there. Thank you all for responding, which is a clear message that you “like” the blog.

An interresting fact about yesterdays post: I gave the Trolls a “free” pass to bash me and the site… Haven’t got one. That felt weird…

Okaj back to bussiness: What happened this week? Our collection trash is opened and we are looking for those little gems…

A little “self-promotion”: Back to Basics got a second chapter added to it’s guide!

Gevlon had a great tip for people who didn’t use auctioneer too much. Fight the arrow scam by using % quick and easy…

The Happy Scribe is saying goodbye, be sure to give him our best!

Cafeine, smokes and AHfees isn’t something I read regularly but this post really helps Engineers.

And well ehm… that’s it… not more people posting good new posts. (If I forgot one be sure to comment so I can add it – if I like it)

One thing I’ve seen though as leveling my druid. all the blue enchant mats are going to drop. Seriously if you don’t believe me, they will….
Have you used the LFG lately? what do you get when you are done? right a blue item… half the time it’s useless.. sooooo… come on, you know this one…no? The enchanter dissenchants it and sells it. Now you can do 1-3 dungeons an hour while lvling, which means 4-5 blue items (let’s say one each run + the one if you kill the last boss)
That are a lot of enchanting mats people! So my prediction for 2010: blue 1-375 enchant mats are going to drop in price!

I’m probably not going to post tomorrow or Monday (Hospital visit) so let me be the first to wish you a Happy New Year!
